VERY IMPORTANT: Book Online EARLY So The Tournament Round Robin Matches Can Be Scheduled!!

** PLEASE READ THE GUIDELINES BELOW:

  • Pickleball FUN Community (PFC) & Ashburton Pool & Recreation Centre (ASHY) FORMIDABLE FRIDAY TOURNAMENT offers 4 indoor pickleball courts, with all equipment including a variety of demo paddles from our major supporters JOOLA and RACQUET PRO during your 3-hour Pickleball FUN mini tournament.

  • To keep these matches at a competitive level, you must have an INTERMEDIATE ADVANCE (3.0 to 3.5) and/or ADVANCE (3.5 to 4.0+) DUPR Skill Rating. Your DUPR rating will need to also be fully validated by our certified Level 2 Advance Pickleball Coach and it cannot be just a self-assessment.

  • We will look to create, 5 Teams for INTERMEDIATE ADVANCE and 5 Teams for ADVANCE, which can include same-gender doubles, mixed doubles and same-gender singles on a given week.

  • All Matches will be recorded in the Tournament feature of your OPENSPORTS app. Here you will be able to have a recording of ALL your round-robin tournament match results. These will be used for match analysis and to determine who potentially could be your major event double partners at the Tasmania Open, VIC Open, NSW Open, QLD Championships, Australian Championships, Australian Masters, National Pickleball League and even the Major PPA Pro Leagues.

  • Each week you will be allocated a different partner to play with or you select your possible partners. All Matches are to 11, if 10 all, win by 2, with an optional 1-minute timeout per match, per team. 12-15 minutes are allocated per game, and then the next pickleball point wins. There will be Semi-Finals and then Placings-Finals with the top 4 partners on that night's Standings Leaderboard of the tournament app. Other partners can still matchplay or focus on specific drills on the remaining courts otherwise relax and watch the finals.

  • Formats to matches can alternate on given weeks from doubles (including mixed), singles (including skinny), and team events depending on the players attending. Therefore, a player will develop skills, and strategies as well as become awesomely competent in all these formats.

*** GUIDELINES *** TO ENSURE COMPETITIVE MATCHES & AWESOME SPORTSMANSHIP!

  • First and foremost, ensure your partner is OPEN TO RECEIVING FEEDBACK during a game BEFORE providing any (e.g. would they prefer you waited until a time-out or the end of the game or are they open to receiving suggestions after every single rally?); remember the onus may be on YOU to keep quiet.

  • DO PROVIDE POSITIVE ENCOURAGEMENT to your partner and even your opponents, if one makes a mistake or does an awesome shot; pumping up each other’s spirits can do wonders for your game!

  • FORMULATING STRATEGIES (i.e. stacking) with your partner is encouraged but do ensure your partner understands and is comfortable with what is proposed; MOST IMPORTANTLY, give them the opportunity to provide feedback on your suggestions, it should NEVER be a “one-way street” as we are ALL learning and hoping to improve. Consider using words like “Can we please consider trying XYZ…” as opposed to “Make sure you do ABC or don’t do XYZ…”

  • Given the advanced nature of the matches, it is expected that ALL PLAYERS follow FUNDAMENTAL PICKLEBALL STRATEGIES such as running to the kitchen line after returning serve (RETURN & RUN), SERVE & STAY strategy, both TRANSITIONING to the kitchen line and most importantly using a COMBINATION of soft and hard shots throughout the game and know when to use it (i.e. not just play as “bangers”).

  • WE ALL have off days sometimes when things seem to go wrong no matter what we do; it is up to each and every single player to control their frustration/disappointment/anger and ensure this doesn’t ruin the game for others, whether it’s their partner making the mistakes or themselves.

  • Don’t be afraid to HAVE FUN & HAVE A LAUGH as you enjoy the competitive matches and keep improving as a PICKLEBALL FUN SUPERSTAR! 🤩🤩
