Pickleball FUN Community (PFC) & Eastern Indoor Sports Centre (EISC) FORMIDABLE FRIDAY NIGHT SESSION offers 4 indoor dedicated tournament-style (including PPA/MLP nets and spacing) pickleball courts, with all equipment including a variety of demo paddles (Joola, Hustle, 6.0 & Standout) to try out for players mainly at the Intermediate to Advance levels during your 4-hour Pickleball FUN session.
PARKING: Plenty of FREE parking is available at the front of the centre.
TOURNAMENT TRAINING: A MUST and a PERFECT training facility, if you want to improve your results at STATE, NATIONAL and PRO leagues and tournaments. Success happens in direct proportion to your preparedness for success! đ„
Roughly the first one (1) hour and/or once everyone is allocated to specific courts, players will focus solely on particular drills to better their gameplay. A certified coach or an advanced player will advise these drills. Please note, that drills may be slightly varied on specific courts.
To keep these matches at a "competitive level" for every player, we will look at your DUPR rating to determine which court you will be playing on.
Very important for you as a player to "start at your allocated court" so that the level/complexity of your initial drills will be achieved for each type of rated player. For example, an advanced player drill will certainly be a lot different as compared to a beginner player drill, hence making it fare for each type of player.
Players Allocated at Court 1, will also be able to have match play on Court 2.
Players Allocated at Court 2, will also be able to have match play on Courts 1 & 3.
Players Allocated at Court 3, will also be able to have match play on Courts 2 & 4.
Players Allocated at Court 4, will also be able to have match play on Court 3.
This allows the opportunity for players within the 3-hour session to have the ability to play with higher-rated players.
** VERY IMPORTANT **
A higher rated player may go and play at other courts if he/she wishes during the 3hr match play session to either encourage or give an opportunity for other lower rated players to play with them. This will be mutually agreed upon with all players involved of-course.
As to a lower rated player may also ask a higher rated player to come and join them at a few games. Giving the opportunity for lower rated players to experience and share about the higher level of game play. This will be regularly reminded to all players during the 3hrs by the host/certified coach of the session.
MONTHLY DUPR ASSESSMENT: Once a month a certified coach will look to help YOU, re-assess your DUPR Rating by going through with you specific areas of the "USAPA Player Skill Rating Definitions" and then hold mini-DUPR matches with other similar skilled players wanting to do the same.
These results will then be uploaded to DUPR through the Pickleball FUN Community DUPR Page to "initialize" your DUPR rating.
One match result is all it takes to acquire a DUPR rating. Even if four players who are all unrated play and post a score, if just one of those four players subsequently plays any rated player, all four players will become retroactively rated. DUPR calls this process âconnectivity.â
All matches are to 11, if 10 all, win by 2. Once a match is finished, then you must let another group of similarly skilled players use that same court unless you are invited back in by the next group of players.
IMPORTANT: Formats to matches can alternate on given weeks from doubles (including mixed), singles (including skinny), and team events depending on the players attending. Therefore, a player will develop skills, and strategies as well as become awesomely competent in all these formats.
â DO PROPER WARM-UP ACTIVATION EXERCISES BEFORE YOUR SESSION: Warm-up activation exercises are very important to prepare your key muscles for the game and prevent injuries. NOTE: We have a list of activation exercises designed for pickleball which you can get from Jay McLean, just message him directly in OpenSports.
â PLAY WITHIN YOUR LIMITS: Do not push yourself beyond your limits. Know your capabilities and play accordingly.
â DRINK CONSISTENTLY THROUGHOUT YOUR SESSION: Staying hydrated is important to prevent cramps and other injuries.
â BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS: Look out for other players, spectators, and potential hazards on and near the court.
â DO NOT PEDAL BACKWARDS TO RETRIEVE BALLS: Avoid running backwards to retrieve balls as this can cause injuries. Instead, turn around and run forward to retrieve the ball.
â LET SOME CHALLENGING SHOTS GO: It's okay to give up a point to avoid injury.
â FEEDBACK: Ensure your partner is OPEN TO RECEIVING FEEDBACK during a game BEFORE providing any (e.g. would they prefer you waited until a time-out or the end of the game or are they open to receiving suggestions after every single rally?); remember the onus may be on YOU to keep quiet.
â DO PROVIDE POSITIVE ENCOURAGEMENT to your partner and even your opponents, if one makes a mistake or does an awesome shot; pumping up each otherâs spirits can do wonders for your game!
â FORMULATING STRATEGIES (i.e. stacking) with your partner is encouraged but do ensure your partner understands and is comfortable with what is proposed; MOST IMPORTANTLY, allow them to provide feedback on your suggestions, it should NEVER be a âone-way streetâ as we are ALL learning and hoping to improve. Consider using words like âCan we please consider trying XYZâŠâ as opposed to âMake sure you do ABC or donât do XYZâŠâ
â FUNDAMENTALS: It is expected that ALL PLAYERS follow FUNDAMENTAL PICKLEBALL STRATEGIES such as running to the kitchen line after returning serve (RETURN & RUN), SERVE & STAY strategy, both TRANSITIONING to the kitchen line and most importantly using a COMBINATION of soft and hard shots throughout the game and know when to use it (i.e. not just play as âbangersâ).
â FUN ENVIRONMENT: WE ALL have off days sometimes when things seem to go wrong no matter what we do; it is up to each and every single player to control their frustration/disappointment/anger and ensure this doesnât ruin the game for others, whether itâs their partner making the mistakes or themselves. We all must look out for each other and create a safe and fun environment for everyone. đ„°
â LASTLY, Donât be afraid to HAVE AWESOME FUN & HAVE A LAUGH! đ€©đ€©
