Picking up where we left off, we will continue playing in the 6-2 rotation before trying anything new. It is a good idea for anyone who chooses to be a setter to have learned this in our first game or otherwise be familiar with the transitions.

This is a new type of event for our more advanced players! In this game we will start to play in a more competitive style, so it is aimed at those who are currently playing in our Meetup group (https://www.meetup.com/en-AU/SJRVball/) in the intermediate games. You should be among the better players able to consistently serve, pass, set and hit with moderate accuracy. Please be honest about this in selecting your skill level (BB and above) in your profile. You should be aware of the basic rules and roles of positions in a rotation.

We will start out by trying a 6-2 rotation. Basically, in this rotation there are two setters, always opposite one another in the rotation. The setter in the back becomes the active setter and the setter in the front becomes a hitter. This lets us have three front row hitters. Here is a video that describes this rotation:

To keep things simple, I don’t think we should transition from row hitters. This is something that I am not personally familiar with, so any help from our experienced players is appreciated! You don’t need to be experienced with the 6-2 rotation as we will be learning.

This platform is also new! It offers a lot more options for the organisers to define the game, so hopefully it will work out. Note you will be asked to choose a position, hitter or setter, for this game. That will be the set-up for the first game and then we can adjust for subsequent games. Waitlists work a bit differently from Meetup in that you will have a limited amount of time to respond before the space is offered to another player. All the usual rules of etiquette, such as Don’t Be No-Show apply.

See you Thursday!
