Summer is open water season! So we'll be doing group swims at the Chatfield Gravel Ponds on Monday's at 6pm.

These will be informal swims open to anyone, from those who want to get in open water competition swim shape to those who just like swimming in a lake.

The lake itself is about 900 meters in length, with a small island and sandbar about 300 meters off the shore. Depending on who is in attendance the group may do one or two out-n-backs (1800-3600 meters), but there is always the option to swim less.

There will be no official coach, but the more experienced swimmers will do their best to help those who are new to open water. Feel free reach out if you're on the fence (in the event or at board@denversquid.com).

In terms of equipment, you only need a suit, goggles, and towel. A colorful cap is recommended, especially for those new to open water. You can use a wetsuit, but you should not need one - as of Memorial Day weekend the temperature was in the mid-60s and will only go up from there.

As they are not official practices, the open water group swims are free to attend. However, unless you have a Parks Pass there is an entrance fee for Chatfield. We highly recommend finding someone to carpool with if you do not have a Parks Pass.

The location in the event is given as Chatfield Reservoir. This is not technically correct, but OpenSports did not have the capability to display the exact location. For that, plug "Chatfield Gravel Ponds" or "39°31'11.7"N 105°04'54.6"W" into your preferred GPS app.

Keep an eye on the weather and the event in OpenSports. If there is a high likelihood of thunderstorms we will cancel practice.
