Open water swim is back for the summer! Denver Squid will be swimming at the Chatfield Gravel Ponds on Wednesdays:
These will be informal swims open to anyone, from those who want to get practice for an open water competition to those who just like swimming in a lake.
The lake itself is about 900 meters in length, with a small island/sandbar about 300 meters off short. Depending on who is in attendance the group may do one or two-n-backs (1800-3600 meters), but there is always the option to swim less.
There will be no official coach, but the more experienced swimmers will do their best to help those who are new to open water. Feel free to reach out if you’re in the fence (in the event or at board@denversquid.com.
Equipment needed should only be suit, goggles, and a towel. A colorful cap is recommended. Wetsuits should not be needed; water temperature should be around mid 60s to start.
As these are not official practices, the open swim is free however, Chatfield is a state park and does require a state park pass or fee to enter. We highly recommend carpooling. The gravel ponds are on the south end of the park.
The group does it’s best to wait for everyone who signed up to show up before we start swimming. Though so keep an eye on weather and event chat, as thunderstorms have been known to cancel practice.
Looking forward to seeing you all there!
Please be aware that payments are not refundable.
