Has it been a while since you played volleyball?

Big City Volleyball is excited to offer our six-week class designed specifically to teach the fundamentals of volleyball to beginners 18+ years old and players with light experience who live in Brooklyn this fall.

Whether you're looking to knock the rust off from the pandemic or picking up a volleyball for the first time, by the end of our six-week class you'll be well on your way to mastering all the major volleyball skills, including developing a killer serve, handling and “setting” the ball cleanly, court positioning, defense, and of course, spiking!

Class Schedule:

Week 1 (November 3)
Passing & Ball Control
Setting / Reacting to ball movement
Proper serving technique (underhand and/or overhand)
Spiking (proper approach, snapping the wrist, arm extension and follow through)

Week 2 (November 10)
Defense/Serve Receive (explanation of different defense positions)
Diving and Rolling Drills
Setting, including set to target
Hitting, develop hit direction of the ball with proper swing techniques
Serving (underhand, overhand, introduction to Jump Serve)

Week 3 (November 17)
Setting - introduction to back set & set back row
Hitting - learn outside, middle, back and back row approaches
Blocking fundamentals
Serving – Advanced explanation of Jump Serve

NO CLASS on November 24 (Holiday closure)

Week 4 (December 1)
Bumping & Digging – ball control and defense against spiked balls
Front Row Attack (setting will be incorporated as well as defense)
Net Play including Blocking, Dinking and Recovering Balls off the Net

Week 5 (December 8)
Emphasis on Court and Game strategy
Review of Court Positions
Rotation & Setter options
Scrimmage

Week 6 (December 15)
Review of previous five weeks
Scrimmage under game conditions, with referee

Please note Big City Volleyball follows strict safety protocols including:
