This class is designed for intermediate and seasoned paddlers wishing to refine their skills for open water kayaking in lakes and oceans. This class is intended for paddlers who wish to spread their wings and learn to paddle safely year round in larger and tougher bodies of water.

This course is not for beginners, recreational or inflatable kayaks.

This class is ideal for anyone who took the 2-day intensive clinic earlier this summer or in the past. We will be taking our skills onto Lake Pend Oreille to work on open water safety and rescue, touring, and rough water boat handling; up to and including surfing if the conditions allow. Students should be prepared to paddle about 10 miles and GET WET. Be sure to read Clinic Requirements below.

COST: $65 per paddler

CLASS REQUIREMENTS:

CLOTHES FOR IMMERSION! Drysuit or Drytop/Pants. YOU WILL GET WET! This class will be focusing on cold water and conditions paddling. We will be doing some open water rescue practice and we will be touring out in open water (hopefully with some challenging conditions). Wool, polypro, fleece, warm hat, rain gear, wetsuit with paddle jacket or dry top/drysuit (preferred)

Properly sized and fitted kayak cockpit, with bulkheads or front and rear flotation
Paddle, PFD, Spray Skirt
Bilge pump, Paddle float
15 ft. of 1" webbing
Complete change of paddling clothes & street clothes
Sun hat, sunglasses and sunscreen
Lunch and water
Minimum age 15, accompanied by adult
SCKC paid membership ($20/yr)
Register and pay for the clinic through OpenSports
