Max Players within Registration

How to use max players within registration

Purpose

Setting Max Players within Registration allows you to:

  • Control team size based on registration type
Ensures teams cannot exceed the player limit tied to the registration option they selected (e.g., 12-player vs. 16-player teams).

  • Enforce pricing tiers
Supports tiered pricing by limiting team size according to the price paid.

  • Offer flexible registration options
Enables you to set different player limits for different registration types, rather than applying a single cap to all teams.

Definition of Terms

Max Players Per Team (General Setting):
Sets a default maximum number of players allowed on any team. If a lower limit is set within a specific registration or on an individual team, the lowest limit is enforced.

Max Players within Registration: Overrides the general setting for teams that register under a specific ticket type. Used to enforce team size based on the registration option purchased.

Max # of Teams:

Caps the total number of teams allowed across all registration types in the league or tournament.

Ex: If you have multiple registration options (e.g., Early Bird, General, 12-Player Registration), this setting limits the combined total number of teams across all of them.

Number of Registrations Available:

Sets how many teams can register under a specific registration option.

Ex. You can allow 10 teams to register under "Early Bird" and 15 under "General."

What is the difference between Max Players Per Team within Registration vs Max Players Per Team?

1. Max Players Per Team (Within Registration)

  • This is a registration-level setting, meaning it applies specifically to the ticket or registration type (e.g., a “Team Registration” ticket).

  • Useful when you have different limits for different registration types

    • Ex. You’re running a tournament and offer two registration options:

    • Option A:

      • 12-player team

      • Price: $1200

      • Set Max Players (Within Registration) = 12

    • Option B:

      • 16-player team

      • Price: $1600

      • Set Max Players (Within Registration) = 16

Result: Teams that register under Option A can only add up to 12 players, and teams under Option B can go up to 16. This keeps the team size aligned with what they paid for.

2. Max Players Per Team

  • This is a general league/tournament setting that applies by default to all teams, unless overridden.

  • Sets a baseline limit for the entire league/tournament.

Ex. You’re running a league where every team, regardless of registration type, should have no more than 15 players

Result: All teams are capped at 15 players unless overridden by a lower limit in their specific registration or team settings.

How to Change Max Players Per Team (Within Registration)

To change the max number of players for a specific team, go to the League Dashboard, select the team, and click Update Max Players.

Note: Do not edit this setting from the Registration Options under “Edit League,” as it will change the player limit for all future teams using that registration option.

Ex. Sam's team registered under the 12-player option but wants to add one more player. Paul, the group admin, should go to the League Dashboard, select Sam’s team, and update the max player limit for that team only.
