How to move your sports group from Meetup to OpenSports

With examples from other sports groups

Here’s what Philadelphia Volleyball wrote as their Meetup group description when they switched to OpenSports in late 2017.

Once you have created your group on OpenSports, the key is to continue bringing your active members over. Quite simply, all you have to do is continue sharing links to your upcoming OpenSports events on your Meetup page.

Where to share links to your OpenSports group and events

1.In your Meetup Group description, let everyone know that you are exclusively using your OpenSports group to post your events and collect rsvp’s, payment, etc!

Here’s what Sons of Pitches FC wrote as their Meetup Group description when they switched to OpenSports in early 2018.

2.Continue to post your events on Meetup, but attach the link to your OpenSports events so that players know that they MUST join through OpenSports!

Here’s what Sons of Pitches FC wrote as their Meetup Event title and description when they switched to OpenSports in early 2018. They even made their event cost $99.99 to ensure that nobody would join through Meetup!

3.Use the email invite tool to invite your email list of players.

You can also use OpenSports’ email invite tool to send bulk invites to hundreds of people on your email list, letting them know that you are switching to OpenSports to manage your pickup games!

P.S. We have created a very helpful HELP section here for guidance on more specific topics such as the automatic waitlist, refunds, waivers, check-ins, collecting payment, creating discounts and memberships, etc.

Have fun!! Let me know if you have questions or feedback about moving your group at alicia@opensports.net :-)
