How to add head-to-head sorting to standings template

Break Ties in Standings Based on Direct Matchups

What is Head-to-Head Sorting?

Head-to-Head Sorting is a feature that allows you to automatically break ties between teams that have the same win/loss record by comparing their performance against each other.

Instead of relying on secondary stats like point differential or fair play, this method prioritizes how tied teams performed in direct matchups—making it especially useful in competitive leagues or tournaments.

How It Works:

  • When two teams are tied, the system compares their results against one another to determine who ranks higher.

  • If more than two teams are tied, head-to-head sorting only applies if all tied teams have played each other the same number of times.

  • If they haven’t, the system cannot apply head-to-head logic, and the teams will remain tied unless another sorting rule is applied.

This gives organizers a more accurate and fair way to reflect competitive results in the standings.
