What is Points Adjustment?
Points Adjustment is a feature on OpenSports that allows league and tournament organizers to manually add or subtract points from a team’s total in the standings—without relying on game results. This gives you full control over your standings and allows you to account for factors outside of regular match outcomes.
Organizers can use Points Adjustment for:
Late penalties or forfeits
Bonus points for completing certain tasks (e.g. submitting scores on time)
Administrative corrections or rule-based deductions
Standings Adjustment vs Points Adjustment

Example Use Case:
If you're running a recreational volleyball league and want to discourage teams from arriving late, you can use the Points Adjustment feature to deduct points as a penalty. Let’s say Team A has earned 12 points based on their match results. If they showed up late to two games, you could apply a -2 point adjustment to their standings. This brings their total to 10 points, clearly reflecting the penalty and encouraging better punctuality in the future.
To get started:
Locate Group Profile > Dashboard
Select League & Tournament located on the left side, and select the league you’d like to add Points Adjustment to
Select Edit on the left hand side and scroll down to Standings Template and select Manage Template and Create Template
If you already have a template, you can edit it. Otherwise, click Create Template to build a new one for your leagues and tournaments.
Load preset standings template or leave blank to create custom template
Enter Title and Associated Sport
If you’d like to add Points Adjustment as a column, scroll to Column and use the drop down menu to select Points Adjustment
- Create label and add description
- If you’d like to add Points Adjustment as a Sorting Rule, scroll to Sorting and use the drop down menu to select Points Adjustment
- Create label, description, and sort direction
- Use Preview located at the bottom to view columns and summary of the custom Standings Template.
To edit by team:
Locate Group Profile > Dashboard
Select Leagues & Tournaments on the left and select which league you’d like to add Points Adjustment to
Select Teams, and onto the three dots on the far left
Select Update Team Details and add value to Points Adjustment
Once information is reviewed, click Save
